My name is Alla, and I really, really love food. Like, REALLY love it.
I love food because of the vast amount of creativity that goes into planning and perfecting meals. I love food because of its diversity and the many different ways you can prepare the same ingredients. And perhaps the reason I love food the most is because of its incredible ability to bring people together. Food is at the core of what we do and how we interact, and we don't always realize it.
While I really, REALLY love food, I don't love spending hours in the kitchen. In fact, earlier this year I took a break from cooking because I was exhausted from all the time I was spending doing it. Cooking is generally therapeutic, and all the hours I was putting into meal prep/dinner prep/creative meals started to feel like very much the opposite. It was draining.
When I got back to regularly cooking, I started doing it differently. I sat down and planned easy, quick, and healthy meals out so that I knew exactly what I'd be making and how much time it would take. I grew up watching Rachael Ray's "30 Minute Meals" with my mother, and channeled everything that I learned on that show into this new method.
Cooking IS enjoyable. But so are a bunch of other things in life. And I'm learning how to balance them all together so that I don't feel bogged down by the very thing I'm most passionate about.
